Biography

Franco Novarina was a former Italian basketball coach and lawyer. In addition to his legal work, he devoted himself to basketball, serving as head coach of the Italian women’s national team from 1990-94. He replaced Aldo Corno for the 1991 European Championships in Israel, where Italy finished seventh. At the subsequent 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the Italian team finished eighth. Previously Novarina had coached A.S. Vicenza, Coppa D’Oro Roma, and Pagnossin Treviso. His last major event as coach was the 1993 European Championship, where Italy placed fourth.

Novarina resigned in 1994 following protests that arose within the women’s movement, which saw then Federal President Gianni Petrucci supporting the resignation of Novarina, who was succeeded by Riccardo Sales. After he stopped coaching Novarina devoted himself to his legal practice.
