Biography

Oscar Verbeeck played 27 international matches from 1914-24 including three Olympic matches in 1920 at Antwerpen and Belgium’s only match in 1924, when they lost to Sweden, 8-1. Before World War I he made his début in Belgiums First Division in 1908 for Bruges, where he played consistently with the A-team until 1912. The next season, Verbeeck joined Union Saint-Gilloise and was immediately successful, winning the Cup in 1913 and 1914. It was not before 1919 that the competition was resumed after World War I. Verbeeck was still with Union when the team took the championship in 1923. He ended his active career in 1926 having played 254 matches in the First Division, and later worked occasionally as a coach.
