As his nickname Ronaldo was already taken in the Brazilian national team - by Ronaldo Rodrigues de Jesus at the 1994 World Cup, and Ronaldo Guiaro at the 1996 Olympics - he used the shirt name Ronaldinho when competing in those tournaments. Outside of these events, and afterwards, he was known as Ronaldo, and later in life, as Ronaldo Fenômeno.
