Goalkeeper Albert Rust turned professional with the club FC Sochaux Montbéliard, staying with them from 1972 to 1987, before moving to Montpellier HSC (with which he won the French Cup in 1990) and finally to A.S. Monaco where he ended his career in 1991.
Internationally, Rust’s golden year was 1984 where he won, as a substitute for Joël Bats, the European Championship on home soil, and then the gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics. He took part in the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico where he played the only match with the “A” national team. Rust was between the posts in the final for third place in Puebla where France beat Belgium 4-2 after extra time. After his playing days, Rust became a coach in France and Tunisia.
