Biography

Forward Wolfram Löwe was a member of the East German (GDR) football team that beat Poland 3-1 at the Montréal Olympics to become the first German team to win an Olympic gold medal. From 1967-77 he played 43 international matches with the East German national team, scoring 12 goals, and also 11 more with the Olympic team. He was also a member of the East German World Cup team in 1974, although he was not on the team that surprisingly beat West Germany 1-0.

Domestically Löwe played with SC Leipzig, later renamed to 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and helped them to win the 1976 East German Cup. During the 1980s until re-unification he worked as a youth coach in Leipzig. Later he became an automotive engineer and worked with the Reichsbahn (Railway) in former GDR, and after re-unification with the Deutsche Bahn.
