Biography

Forward Hans-Jürgen Riediger was a member of the East German (GDR) football team that beat Poland 3-1 at the Montréal Olympics to become the first German team to win an Olympic gold medal. From 1975-80 he played 61 international matches scoring 6 goals with the East German national team, and also 8 more with the Olympic team in 1976.

In his youth Riediger played with BSG Traktor Sonnewalde and BSG Motor Finsterwalde Süd, but as an adult he only played with BFC Dynamo Berlin in 193 Oberliga matches, scoring 105 goals from 1973-84 and helped them to win the East German national titles from 1979-83. He later became a graduated soccer coach. His son Marcel also became a football player.
