Biography

László Branikovits began his sports career at Postás SE (1961-1962), and from there he joined the junior team of Ferencváros (1962-1966). From this level he was promoted relatively quickly to the first team, at the age of 17 and, thanks to his ability to score, quickly became a favorite player. He scored 74 goals in 200 matches in the Ferencváros team between 1967 and 1976, won the national championship title with the team in 1967, 1968 and 1976, and also won the Hungarian Cup three times (1972, 1974, 1976). On the international scene he was a member of the team when they played in two finals: Inter-Cities Fairs Cup against Leeds United in 1968 and Cup Winners’ Cup against Dynamo Kyiv in 1975. He was still a member of the team in the 1975-1976 season, but by then he played fewer and fewer games. He moved then to Csepel, where he played two more seasons in the first league. He finished his football career at Bp. Építök. Between 1972 and 1975 he played 6 times in the Hungarian national team and scored 2 goals. Additionally, he was capped 30 times in the youth national team (1964–1967), ten-time in the Olympic team (1970–1972). He was a member of the team that won a silver medal at the Munich Olympics. In 1979, at just 30, he said goodbye to professional football. In the end, he never became a coach, primarily because he would have had less time with his family. He graduated as an economist and worked in his profession. In 1981 he was elected the Honorary Champion of Ferencváros.
