Renato Buso

Renato Buso had a dramatic start to his footballing career. He made his début as an attacker with Juventus in 1985 at the age of 16 and, before the season was out, Juve had won the Intercontinental Cup and the 1985/86 Serie A title. Buso was used mostly as a reserve behind the likes of Aldo Serena, Welsh international Ian Rush, and the 1982 World Cup winner Alessandro Altobelli.

After four seasons at Juventus, Buso moved to Fiorentina in 1989, and subsequent moves saw him play at Sampdoria, Napoli, Lazio and finally Piacenza. Having scored 39 goals in 311 Serie A appearances, Buso retired.

On the international stage, Buso never won a full Italy cap, but scored nine goals in 30 appearances for the under-21s. He helped Italy win the 1992 European Under-21 Championship when he was the competition’s top scorer with three goals, thanks to two in the semi-final against Denmark, and one in the final against Sweden. Buso also helped Italy reach the quarter-finals of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics where they were eliminated by the hosts and eventual champions, Spain. Buso was sent off in the 89th minute. After he retired from playing, Buso coached the Spezia and Fiorentina youth teams, and then U.S.D. Gavorrano and A.C. Sangiovannese in Serie C.
