Biography

Born “Alberico”, the major Italian almanacs and stickers producer Panini mispelled his name and then he became known as “Alberigo”. Product of AC Milan academy, Evani developed from left fullback to a dependable all-round midfielder. Nicknamed Bubu by fans, due to his resemblance of Hanna & Barbera’s character Boo-boo, Evani spent 13 seasons at AC Milan playing 393 games and scoring 19 goals (296 games and 14 goals in Italian championships). He played 353 games in Serie A scoring 16 goals wearing AC Milan and UC Sampdoria shirts. His honours included three Serie A championships (1987-88, 1991-92, 1992-93), two Italian Super Cups (1988, 1992, 1993), an Italian Cup (1993-94 with UC Sampdoria), two European Cups (1988-89, 1989-90), two European Super Cups (1989, 1990) and two Intercontinental Cups (1989, scoring the winner against against Colombian side Atlético Nacional, and 1990). He retired from football after the 1997-98 season shared between AC Reggiana (Serie B) and Carrarese (Serie C1) and became a coach for AC Milan Allievi Nazionali (Under-17) team with whom he won the 2007 Italian championship. Currently he’s the AC Milan Primavera (Under-20) team coach.

Evani debuted with Italian national team on 21 December 1991 against Cyprus during Arrigo Sacchi’s reign: he was called up 22 times playing 15 matches without scoring. With the Under-21 team he played 6 matches scoring one goal. Evani took part at the 1988 Olympic Games, playing 4 matches and scoring one goal against Guatemala, and at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, playing in the first and the last Italian matches.
