Biography

Like his father before him, Alessandro Melli became a striker with Parma A. C. Alessandro made his Parma début at the age of 17, and was part of the team that won promotion from Serie C to Serie A. He had two spells at Parma, from 1990-94 and 1995-98, making 241 appearances and scoring 56 goals. Melli also had spells in Serie A with Sampdoria (8 matches), A. C. Milan (6) and Perugia Calcio (38)

Melli won 20 Italian under-21 caps, scoring eight goals, and heled them win the 1992 European Under-21 Championship. He also played in the Barcelona Olympics that year, scoring twice in group stage matches, before eventually being knocked out by the eventual champions, and hosts, Spain. Melli went on to win two full international caps, against Malta and Estonia, in 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
