Biography

An attacking midfielder, Antonio Sabato made his début for Internazionale as a 19-year-old in 1976. He then had spells on loan at Forlì, Sambenedettese and Catanzaro, before a recall to Inter in 1982, when he became a regular member of the first team squad until a fall-out with a high-profile teammate led to him moving to Torino in the 1985/86 season. After four seasons he moved to Ascoli before ending his career with Serie C club Alessandria.

Sabato started his international career with Italy in the 1977 FIFA World Youth Championship. He moved up to the under-21 team in 1982 and by the end of the year made his under-23 début and became part of the squad for the 1984 Olympics, where he played in four matches at Los Angeles. He made his senior international début as a substitute against Turkey in March 1984. It was the first of his four caps, all in 1984, three of which were substitute appearances. Most of his Italian international appearances (11) were with the Olympic squad.
