Biography

A player equally at home in defence and in midfield, Okey Isima’s career blossomed at Enugu Rangers and it was whilst with that club that he was first chosen to play for the national team. His debut for Nigeria came in 1978 and two years later he played as a left sided defender in the Nigerian team that won their first African Cup of Nations title. His Olympic career was restricted to a single game as Nigeria failed to make an impression on the Moscow Games.

Isima played in two further African Nations Cup tournaments before leaving to play for Atlanta in the USA. After returning to Nigeria when his playing days were over he acted as a talent scout until his death from typhoid fever at the age of 56.
