Biography

Armenian football midfielder Arkadi Andriasyan joined Shirak SC in 1965 before signing with FC Ararat a year later. Andriasyan spent most of his career with FC Ararat, playing in 242 matches for the team and scoring 62 goals. In 1973 he did the double with the club when they won the Soviet Top League and the Soviet Cup, before winning another Soviet Cup in 1975.

During the first half of the 1970s Andriasyan also represented the Soviet Union national team, making his international début against Sweden in August 1972. Later that month he played in the football tournament at the München Olympics. The Soviet team reached the medal round where they drew 2–2 draw against East Germany, with both teams being awarded a bronze medal. Neither team were willing to risk losing their bronze medal in the extra time of their match, resulting in the crowd booing them as they finished the match without attacking.

Andriasyan retired as a player in 1978 and immediately moved into coaching, managing FC Kotayk until 1981. He spent several spells alternating between managing FC Kotayk and his old club FC Ararat, winning the 1996–97 Armenian Cup with the latter. Andriasyan continued to work as a coach with his former club until 2012. For his work and success in the sport he was bestowed with multiple honours, including the Master of Sport of the USSR (1971), the Honoured Coach of the Armenian SSR (1982), and the Order For Merit to the Fatherland of Armenia (2011).
