Ukrainian football striker Yury Yeliseyev began his career with Lokomotiv Moskva in 1968 before joining Zorya Luhansk two years later. Yeliseyev spent eight seasons with Zorya, playing in 126 matches and scoring 36 goals, in addition to winning the league title in 1972. He finished the decade playing a season with Krylia Sovetov before finishing his career playing for several clubs in East Germany.
In 1972 Yeliseyev played in seven international matches for the USSR team, including being in their squad at the München Olympics. At the Games he scored in their 3–0 win against Morocco, with the Soviet team eventually winning bronze. Yeliseyev retired as a player in 1984 and then took up the role of director at the sports complex at the Yakubovsky Plant. He later returned to his former club Zorya as their head coach from 2000 to 2002.
