Shannon MacMillan played on the US football (soccer) team at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics, winning a gold and bronze medal, respectively. She was on the 2004 Olympic team but did not play. MacMillan also competed at the 1999 and 2003 FIFA World Cups, helping the US win the title in 1999, and earning a bronze medal in 2003. She was on the US National Team from 1994-2006, earning 176 international caps.
MacMillan played in college at the University of Portland where she was a four-time All-American and was named the Hermann Award winner as a senior (1995). She played professionally from 2001-03 with the San Diego Spirit.
MacMillan later became a coach, serving as an assistant with the UCLA women’s soccer program in 2007-08. She later was the director of the Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks Soccer Club. MacMillan was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2007, and is a member of the US Soccer Hall of Fame.
