Biography

Although born in Uruguay, Tab Ramos emigrated to the USA with his family when he was 11. Ramos played college soccer at North Carolina State University, where he was All-American for three years and All-Conference all four years.

While in college Ramos played with the New Jersey Eagles of the American Soccer League and was on the US National team that played at the 1988 Olympics. After graduation he signed with the Miami Sharks. Ramos played professionally through 2002, joining UE Figueres in Spain from 1990-92. He stayed in Spain from 1992-96, playing with Real Betis through 1995, and then was with UANL Tigres for one year. Ramos then returned to the United States, playing out his career with Metro Stars.

Ramos’ international career started in 1983 when he played for the US U-20 team at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. He later played in three FIFA World Cups, in 1990, 1994, and 1998. In all, Ramos was capped 81 times during international play from 1988-2000. He also played for the US at the 1989 World Futsal Championship, winning a bronze medal.

Ramos was inducted into the US Soccer Hall of Fame in 2005. He later became a coach and manager, and in 2011 became head coach of the USA U-20 National Team. In 2014 he became assistant coach of the US National Team, shortly before the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
