Biography

A. J. Wood was a football (soccer) forward who played for the USA at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He played in college at the University of Virginia where he helped the Cavaliers win the NCAA title for four consecutive years, 1991-94. In 1994 he was named the SoccerAmerica Player of the Year.

Wood played for the US at the 1989 U-16 World Cup and also played at the 1995 Pan American Games. In 1996 he was drafted by the MetroStars of Major League Soccer (MLS). Wood played five years in the MLS. He was with the Stars in 1996-97, then joined the Columbus Crew during the 1997 season. He played his final three years with DC United. After retirement Wood became a youth soccer coach and worked with DC United as a youth development coach.
