Described by the Athenian writer Amarantos as a man of enormous dimensions, excessively tall and with huge, powerful ribs, Herodoros was also renowned as a champion eater and drinker. At one meal he would often consume seven kilos of bread, seven kilos of meat and six litres of wine. In 303 BCE, Herodoros assisted the king Demetrios Poliorketes to capture Argos when he blew so loud on two trumpets simultaneously that he inspired the soldiers to fight courageously.
