Biography

Princess Kyniska of Sparta was the daughter of the Spartan King, Arkhidamos, and the sister of Agesilaos II. She was the first woman to win an Olympic title and, after winning, she made dedications to Zeus on each occasion, in both 396 and 392 BCE. Kyniska placed a statue of bronze horses at Olympia, with a victory inscription.
