Biography

Marcus Aurelius Asklepiades was made an honorary member of the Alexandrian Museum for his victory. He retired from his athletic career because of injuries, although later made a brief comeback. Asklepiades was a periodonikes, having won at Olympia, Pythia, Nemea (twice), and Isthmia (twice) in the pankration. He also proclaimed that he was undefeated in the pankration, never cheated as a competitor, and never won a championship, and retired akoniti. He was the son of Marcus Aurelius Demetrios, who was periodonikes in the pankration and a successful wrestler. Marcus Aurelius Demetrios also held several top offices in the athletic guild after his competitive career.
