Jenny Sunderland

Jenny Sunderland started out as a gymnast when she was nine-years-old, competing at the Australian Gymnastics Championships just three years later. In 1970 Sunderland competed at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, followed by competitions in Japan and the United States. Two years later she became the only female gymnast to represent Australia at the 1972 München Olympics. Sunderland then became a national champion in Melbourne in 1973, and competed at the Commonwealth Games in Christchurch before retiring.

After her competitive career Sunderland moved to the South West of Western Australia, where she founded the Busselton Gymnastics Club, coaching there for more than three decades. In 2024 she was honoured with a Life Membership of Gymnastics WA for her contributions to the sport in Western Australia. Her nephew Scott competed in cycling at the 2012 London Olympics.
