Biography

West German rhythmic gymnast Regina Weber surprisingly won the bronze medal in the individual event at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. She won the West German all-around titles from 1981-86 and in total won 32 national titles. At the 1981 World Championships she was tenth and, two years later, eighth.

Weber was the outstanding German gymnast of the 1980s. She later married footballer Souleymane Sané from Senegal, who played in the German Bundesliga with SC Freiburg, 1.FC Nürnberg and SG Wattenscheid 09. Their three sons, Kim, Leroy (a German international from 2015), and Sidi also became footballers. Weber studied textile design and created several sportswear collections with her husband. She also worked as a school teacher at Bochum.
