Biography

Mária Hámos’s father, Lóránd Hámos, was an athlete who represented BBTE. He was a member of the Hungarian team selected for the 1908 Olympics in the 100m sprint, but in the end he did not make it to London. The sport was carried on by his daughter and she managed to participate in the Olympics.

As a student of Erzsébet Szilágyi High School Hámos competed in swimming. In 1928 she had already won the Toldi Award with the BBTE gymnastics team, which was then equivalent to the team championship title. In the same year, she participated in the Olympics in Amsterdam, where women could compete in gymnastics for the first time. As a member of the Hungarian team she finished in fourth place.
