Biography

Pentti Saarman was a Finnish boxer who competed in the light-welterweight class in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Saarman won the silver medal at the 1968 World Championships before becoming the Finnish champion two years later. 1970 also saw him win his first TUL championship before winning his second title in 1972. That same year he represented Finland at the München Olympics but lost his opening bout to Cuba’s Andrés Molina after the referee stopped the contest in the third round. Following his career in the ring he stayed active in the sport working as a coach. Outside of boxing Saarman worked as a fireman in Hämeenlinna from 1969 to 1993.
