Alfredo Gollini was a member of Modena’s “Panaro” club. With gymnasts like Otello Capitani and Alberto Braglia in his club he was a second-tier athlete for most of the time. He rarely made the top ranks but was a reliable team member. Gollini earned a spot on the Italian team for the 1912 Olympic Games by placing 10th in the artistic gymnastics selection event held in June in Bologna. After attending a pre-Olympic training camp in Brescia, Gollini made the team that dominated the team event in the European System, which focussed on apparatus exercises. He continued to compete until the outbreak of World War I, but was not listed among the top ranks.
In 1920, at the age of 38, he tried a comeback to make the team for the 1920 Olympic Games at Antwerpen. Although he placed sixth at the final trial in Forlì, he was not selected as a member of the Italian team. Subsequently, he retired from active sport.
