Biography

After competing in the 1932 Los Angeles and the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Mahito Haga graduated from the Faculty of Political Science and Economics of Waseda University. In 1950 he became mayor of the town of Takatsuki in Osaka Prefecture. Haga retired in 1958 and then became a member of the House of Representatives for the Japan Socialist Party and was re-elected five times, retiring in 1976. Haga acted as an advisor for the 1967 Summer Universiade in Tokyo and the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics.
