Biography

Right-wing handball player Melanie Schliecker came sixth with the German team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She won 114 international caps and scored 220 goals. Schliecker participated in the 1996, 1998 and 2000 European Championships, and the 2003 Worlds.

Schliecker played domestically with VfL Horneburg (until 1993), Buxtehuder SV (1993-2006), SG Handball Rosengarten (2006-13), and VfL Stade (2015-18). She taught children at a special needs school in Bergen who had physical, mental, and learning disabilities. She taught mathematics, German, sports, and arts. Schliecker lived openly gay.
