Biography

József Horváth stood in the goal for Győri ETO KC in two eras, first between 1964 and 1966 and then between 1971 and 1974. In 1973 he finished second in the Hungarian Championship and won the Hungarian Cup. During his career, he played for TFSE, Vasas, and Várpalota. Between 1967 and 1974 Horváth played 119 times for the Hungarian national handball team. At the World Championships he finished eighth in 1970 and seventh in 1974. At the 1972 München Olympics he helped the Hungarian team to finish eighth.

Horváth obtained a physical education teacher’s qualification. He ended his sports career in 1979 and then worked as a coach in Hungary and Austria. His grandson’s father is Roberto Carlos, the Olympian and world champion Brazilian footballer.
