Biography

Sándor Szomori (born as Strosz) competed in swimming in high school. As a handball player of Újpest he won the national championship title three times (1931, 1936, 1938). Between 1932 and 1938 he appeared in the Hungarian national team 13 times. Szomori placed fourth in the 1936 Olympics and won a bronze medal at the 1938 World Cup.

After his retirement as a player, he continued his sports career as a referee and then as a successful coach. Between 1950 and 1952 he was the vice-president of the Hungarian Handball Association.
