Biography

Aleksandr Rezanov played handball for Zaporozhye in the Soviet Union from 1966 to 1983. Rezanov also made 127 appearances for the Soviet Union national team from 1969 to 1979, scoring 93 goals. His domestic success saw him win silver at the USSR Championships in 1971, along with five bronze medals (1972, 1975, 1982–84). In 1972 he was part of the squad for the handball tournament at the München Olympics where the Soviet Union finished fifth. Four years later he won gold at the 1976 Montréal Olympics, with him playing in all six matches for the team. After his retirement as a player Rezanov became a coach, which saw him become the head coach of both the men’s and women’s national teams of Turkey from 1991 until 1995. Following his stints with the national teams he remained in Turkey to coach Beşiktaş from 1995 to 1998. Rezanov returned home to Ukraine in 1998 where he coached the domestic team ZTR Zaporizhzhia, and later the Ukrainian national team.
