Biography

Joel Voelkert attended Western Michigan University where he played both basketball and tennis. Voelkert was captain and MVP of the basketball team his senior year, also making All-Conference. In tennis he was singles and doubles conference champion in 1970, his senior year. He later settled in South Carolina where he coached college club handball at Furman University. His son, Chad, played for Furman in handball, while his daughter, Jenna, was a swimmer at Gardner-Webb College.
