Biography

German judoka Anja von Rekowski was eliminated in the pool stage at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in the middleweight class. Four years later at Sydney she competed in the half-middleweight and finished fifth, losing the pool final to the eventual gold medallist, Séverine Vandenhende of France. The year after the Olympics, von Rekowski won the silver medal at the World Championships.

Von Rekowski also won a bronze medal at the 1996 Europeans and added her only German national title in 1997. She won another bronze at the Europeans in 1999. Von Rekowski later studied medicine and became a family doctor at Braunschweig in her own practice. She raised four children.
