Biography

Djillali Ben Brahim was an Algerian judoka who was a national champion in the lightweight division before becoming a successful coach. Brahim first took up judo in 1968 and trained at several clubs in Algiers. His first international success came at the 1978 African Games when he won the gold medal. Two years later he competed at the 1980 Moskva Olympics where he was eliminated by Kim Byong-Gun in the opening round. Brahim competed at two editions of the World Championships (1979, 1981), and won a gold medal at the Praha Tournament in Czechoslovakia in 1983. In 2002 he began coaching at the Mouloudia Club Algérois (MCA) before serving as the organisation’s technical director from 2008 until his retirement in 2014.
