Erich Butka was an Austrian judoka who participated in the 1972 München Olympics. He was eliminated in the pool stage of the heavyweight division. During his active career he won three European Championship bronze medals (1968 and 1969 in the individual event, and 1970 with Austria in the team competition). Butka won the Austrian championship nine times.
Butka later became a coach at PSV Salzburg for 30 years. After his successful sports career, he held the position of the regional coach, and Salzburg referee’s chairman.
