Biography

West German judoka Marc Meiling won the silver medal in the half-heavyweight class at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Four years earlier at Los Angeles, he was eliminated in the pools in the middleweight class. He won bronze medals at the World Championships in 1989, 1991, and 1993, and at the Europeans he added a silver in 1990 and two bronzes in 1987 and 1989.

Meiling won four national titles in 1984 and 1988-90, and also at the World Cup Germany in 1993 and 1994. After his active career he was employed by automobile companies Daimler and Opel, and became Sales Director with Opel Financial Services, later Sales Manager at Opel Bank AG.
