Biography

Franz Kartz lost the 1932 lightweight quarter-final on points to the man who would become Olympic champion, Laurie Stevens from South Africa. His first round contest saw him beat Korean-born Japanese Otsu Shuko (Korean: Hwang Eul-Su) on points. Kartz was the West German lightweight champion in 1929 and middleweight champion from 1930-32 (in those days, only regional championships were held). He participated in three international matches.
