Biography

Boxer Karl Schmedes won the lightweight bronze medal at the 1934 European Championships. He was one of the favourites to win the lightweight title at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but was beaten in his first bout by José Padilla of the Philippines. Schmedes was German lightweight champion from 1933-36, and after World War II turned professional but with limited success.
