Jacques Vignon took up rowing at the age of 11 and soon began to win titles at the junior, then senior, levels. While serving in the military, he not only earned rowing victories at military tournaments, but was also noticed by the national team and selected to represent France in the eights at the 1956 European Championships. There, the crew won a silver medal behind Czechoslovakia and then went on to the Melbourne Olympics, where they were eliminated in the round one repêchage. Following his retirement from active competition, he worked as both a coach and an administrator in his sport.
