Biography

Rower Elke Markwort was a member of the West German coxed eights at the 1988 Seoul Games, finishing seventh as the only crew not reaching the final. She won her only national title, also in 1988, partnering with Inge Althoff-Schwerzmann in the coxless pairs. Markwort married non-Olympian teammate Birger Kruse and raised three children, all of whom became rowers.
