Biography

West German rower Georg, brother of Olympic rower Christel Agrikola, partnered Andreas Schmelz in the double sculls at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. They finished an unfortunate fourth in the final, although they were foreseen as one of the favorites. Agrikola then retired for three years. In 1983, both had won the bronze medal at the World Championships. In 1988 at Seoul, after coming out of retirement, Agrikola rowed with the quadruple sculls and finished sixth.

In 1981 and 1982 Agrikola won the national single sculls title, was second in 1983, and won the double sculls with Schmelz in 1984. In 1988, Agrikola won the double sculls and the quadruple sculls at the nationals. He then moved back to the single sculls and captured second place at the nationals in 1989 and 1990, and was third in 1991.
