Rolf Larcher was born in the municipality of Meilen in the Swiss canton of Zürich where he took up rowing. Larcher was selected to represent Switzerland in the double sculls at the 1960 Roma Olympics. Along with compatriot Ernst Hürlimann the pair won bronze, finishing just a tenth-of-a-second behind the Soviet crew.
