Maurice Matthey

Maurice Matthey was a member of Aviron Romand Zürich in the 1940s where he honed his craft in the single (skiff) and double sculls events. In July 1948, he won the national double sculls title alongside clubmate Maurice Gueissaz at the Swiss Rowing Championships. This gained them selection to the Olympic team to compete in London, just a few weeks after winning the title. Competing in the double sculls event, the pair finished behind the eventual silver medallists Aage Larsen and Ebbe Parsner of Denmark in the preliminary heat, then fell to the Italian pair of Mario Ustolin and Francesco Dapiran in the repêchage.

Matthey remained active in competitions following the Olympics, including an appearance at an 1950 international regatta held in Yugoslavia. Later moving to Genève, Matthey served as president of the Swiss Rowing Federation in the 1960s and as president and secretary of the Société Nautique de Genève (SNG).
