Biography

Viktor Omelyanovich was a Soviet rower who competed throughout the 1980s. In addition to being a four-time champion of the USSR Omelyanovich also won medals at the World Championships and the Olympics. He had his first success at the World Championships with bronze in the coxed four (1981) and bronze in the eight (1982). Staying with the eight, he was part of the gold medal winning crews at the 1984 Friendship Games in Moskva and at the 1985 World Championships. Omelyanovich won further medals at the World Championships with silver in the eight (1986) and silver in the coxed four (1987). His consistent performances earned him a place in the eight boat for the 1988 Seoul Olympics, where the Soviet Union won silver. His wife Mariya Omelyanovich also rowed at the Seoul Games, finishing fourth in the double sculls.
