Barbara Kirch started rowing with the Vesper Boat Club and then rowed at the University of Pennsylvania. She competed at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics in coxless pairs. Kirch won a silver medal in coxed fours at the 1982 World Championships and a bronze medal in double sculls at the 1987 Worlds. She was 1987 US Champion in both double and quad sculls.
Kirch later became a coach at Dartmouth College and then at U Penn, before become director of rowing and women’s varsity coach at Peddie School in New Jersey. She also coached the US junior women at the World Junior Championships in 1996-98. In 2010 she was named to the FISA Youth Rowing Commission.
