Biography

In May 1932, Luigi Rovati – called “The first Colossus of Cinisello Balsamo” after his home town – won a 4-nations tournament in Berlin, which earned him a place in the Italian Olympic boxing team. Because only six boxers entered the heavyweight class, just one win on points against American Fred Feary brought him a place in the final, where he lost to Argentine Alberto Lovell. Rovati was able to take a lot of punches and was a hard puncher himself. From 1933-37 he had four pro fights in Austria, Switzerland and Germany without winning one. In his last of these fights he lost by knockout in round one against German Adolf Witt.
