Emil Holm was a carpenter and builder by profession. He went to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1907, but later returned to Finland. He competed in the 300 metres free rifle individual and team events at the Stockholm Olympics. The following year, his building firm went bankrupt, and he fled back to the United States, settling in Galveston, Texas. His children followed him in 1920. Holm died in 1925 aged just 47. His son Lars died during World War II.
