Olaf Husby worked as an assistant in a solicitor’s office. He later also ran a café of the temperance movement. In 1900 he married his first wife Marie Fredrikke and in 1922 his second wife Anna. In 1914, he moved to the United States, where one of his brothers lived in the town of Baltic, South Dakota. After a few years, he returned and settled again in Trondheim.
As a marksman he became the shooting king at the National Shooting Championships in Tromsø in 1910. At the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, he competed in free rifle and military rifle events. In 1922, he was secretary of the National Shooting Conference in Trondheim.
