Biography

Finland’s Markku Syrjälä began his career as an archer in the mid-1970s, becoming the national champion in the 18m event in 1980. Syrjälä was one of three Finnish archers to compete at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where he finished in 49th place. In the early 1980s he moved to Tampere where he continued to compete in archery for the rest of the decade. Following his sporting career Syrjälä became the chairman of the Finnish archery club Tampereen Jousiampujat.
