Biography

After the end of the war boxer Salvador Rivera represented his native Peru in international competitions. In 1947 Rivera won gold in the 53.5 kg class at the Bolivarian Games in Lima, earning himself a place on the Olympic team. One year later he travelled to England the Games in London, where he competed in the bantamweight tournament. After beating Bertil Ahlin (SWE) in his first bout, he then lost to the eventual gold medallist Tibor Csík (HUN) in his next fight.

By the early 1950s Rivera had turned professional and relocated to the Bronx in New York. His pro career was poor, winning only three of his 13 fights, but he did manage to register a win at Madison Square Garden in 1951. Rivera was 96-years-old when he died in Orlando, Florida in January 2025.
