Biography

Following a brief career as a footballer Anwar Jassam moved into coaching, becoming one of the best in Iraq. Jassam played as a defender for Sikak Al-Hadeed from 1965 to 1971 before coaching the team from 1971 until 1975. From 1978 to 1985 he coached Al-Zawraa, winning the Iraqi League with the team in the 1978–79 season. His spells as coach of Al-Zawraa were interspersed with spells managing the national side, including coaching the team at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. Jassam will be best remembered for his domestic success, which saw him win five Iraq FA Cups with Al-Zawraa.
